Fauna of the Preserve Stolby

The peculiarity of the fauna of the preserve is conditioned by its location in the middle of the ‘knot', formed by the European-Ob and East-Siberian zoogeographical regions, and also by Altai-Sayan mountain taiga, forest-steppe of Krasnoyarsk depression and zones of southern-siberian taiga. The majority of the preserve fauna consists of the western regions species of southern Siberia .

Most of mammals in the preserve are forest and taiga species. But among 58 species only sable was intentionally adapted on the territory of Stolby in the beginning of the 50-s, and American mink and musk-rat were brought here to get reacclimatized to the territory of the Krasnoyarsk region.

Ornithofauna is represented by 199 species of birds, among which there are 151 nesting species, 42- settled, 109- flying, 12- past flying, 8- wintering and 12- visitant ones. Winter ornithofauna includes forest blue-tit, nuthatch, nutcracker, waxwing, hazel-hen and woodpecker. In summer the most numerous are blue nightingale, cliff-chaff, etc. The average density of bird population is 400-600 birds per square kilometer.
